Debora Westra is a visual artist, maker and educator, and one half of the interdisciplinary artist duo ZOLT, together with Susanne Luurs. Based in the North of the Netherlands, ZOLT creates installations, performances and visual worlds that explore the relationship between people, landscape, history and the stories embedded in places and materials.
Within ZOLT, Debora brings a tactile and figurative approach to the work. She works primarily with wool and textiles, creating large-scale tapestries and sculptural images that combine recognizable forms with imaginative landscapes. Her fascination with wool goes beyond its material qualities: she is interested in its origins, its local histories and the storytelling potential of textiles as carriers of memory, identity and culture.
Alongside her work with ZOLT, Debora teaches illustration at Minerva Art Academy in Groningen, where she focuses on experimentation, research and collaboration. Her artistic practice continues to move between illustration, textiles, installation and performance, always looking for new ways to turn research and stories into tangible images and experiences.
ZOLT explores how stories can be brought to the surface through material, movement and imagination. Their work moves between the visual and the performative, inviting audiences to enter the worlds they create.
